MRP14 is a endogenous danger-associated pattern produced by myeloid cells and microglia. Together with S100A8 (MRP8) it forms a tight heterodimer that is able to provoke auto- and paracrine stimulation of the TLR4 pathway increasing the inflammatory response of target cells. MRP14 has also been demonstrated to have tight interactions with amyloidogenic structures as amyloid plaques and it has been suggested that it assists in their formation.
